Ghana Journey: LEAP OF FAITH

Note:  I will post my Ghana blogs as Internet access allows. Photos will be posted after I return home.

Sunday 2 June 2013

As always, my life is one overlapping event after another. I just spent an amazing week filled with daily rehearsals and performances of GODSPELL JR with the awesome young cast of the Drama Club of Holy Trinity School in Beaverton, Oregon. It was a sheer joy to lead the band for them.

The final performance ended at 9:00 pm on Saturday, June 1. Robert Feduccia (whose daughter Maggie was in the GODSPELL cast) would pick me up for the airport at 3:45 am, less than seven hours later. Since I really had no time to pack yet, the choice was obvious: NO SLEEP! It was all-nighter time! COFFEE!

This trip to Ghana has always been a "way out in the future" event for me. I was excited when I received the invitation last January from spiritandsong and Catholic Relief Services (CRS). But I continued to busy myself with my work and ministry, with occasional CRS conference calls and receiving reading material to prepare. And now, here I am on a plane to Baltimore, our first leg of the journey.

I have not really been sure on what we are going to do in Ghana, and why I was invited to participate in this adventure. The other musicians in our delegation -- Sarah Kroger, Ben Walthers, Greg Walton, and ValLimar Jansen -- are all gifted singer-songwriters whose ministry involves extensive touring and performing.

I don't sing and I don't tour, but I do write songs and articles and books. I also lead music at a parish liturgy. So I guess we're all contributing something unique and complementary.
